The German Institute for Town Centre DevelopmentThe German Institute for Town Centre Development (DSSW) was founded in 1993 by the Federal Government and the German industry. Its projects are being funded by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Labour within the frame of the programme ‘Aufschwung Ost’ (revival of the East) and the budget title ‘Revitalisation of East German Town Centres’. It is the main task of the DSSW to develop concepts for the revitalisation of East German town centres. Its objective function, to increase the city centres’ attractiveness as locations of living, business and culture, derives therefore from the main task. This objective determines the selection of pilot projects in which ideas and experience are being gathered in order to implement them on the spot. This happens by means of transfer of knowledge in networks and publications. Contact |
